We’d really like to get in touch – to find out more about you, and hopefully make contact with some of the friends who have left messages here – but have been unable to reach you through the information provided in your DNS records. I want to extend my warmest sympathies to the Gainey family. I met Laura on our incredible journey across the Atlantic on board Concordia in 1998 during the Cutty Sark races. I remember the exact moment we met as she hauled her duffel bag up the gangway; it was immediately apparent that Laura was a vivacious and strong-willed girl … a kindred spirit. I have not seen Laura for years, but this tragic loss continues to weigh on my mind. She will always remind me of the importance of adventure, curiosity, and staying true to one’s self. I send my love to you Laura, your fanily, and your many friends all over the world.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to Laura Gainey’s family and friends. I did not know her, but I host a morning news radio show and have been following her story from the beginning. I was captivated by her smiling face in some of the initial pictures. I, too, am an avid ocean-woman, and I understand the love – and dangers – of the water. I feel she was a kindred spirit.

Peace to all who knew her and are grieving right now.

    To Laura’s family:
I met Laura a couple of years ago when we acted in “The Vagina Monologues” together at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo. Our mutual interest in social, environmental, and feminist issues made us quick friends as we kept in touch off and on. I am so sorry to hear of her loss…She was an amazing woman with such strength and vitality and I will cherish our moments messing up lines together forever…
Sending loving energy is with you…
